Ryan Leslie : “5 Minute Freshen Up”

Happy Friday Earthlings,

First and Foremost, Ryan Leslie is a top shelf producer, entrepreneur & philanthropist.  His production credits speak for themselves (Brittany Spears, Cassie, Fabulous, LL Cool J, Snoop Doog & Tha Dogg Pound, Kid Cudi, Ne-Yo, etc).  As an R&B Singer/Hip Hop Artist, he’s definitely been “out there”, but it seems that he remains underrated in this particular category.  We aren’t sure if his new album Les is More will be Universal/Mottown affiliated (home to his previous albums), but he’s definitely marketing himself well on this new effort.  Check out his latest video below and let us know what you think.  The song is pretty cool, but the video and lyrical content isn’t anything new to say the least.  However, it’s the weekend.  Time to relax, “freshen up” and “shake it like a pair of maracas!”

Jack White: Love Interruption x Sixteen Saltines

Bredren and Sistas,

Jack White embarks on his first solo tour this spring/summer!  While touring selective dates across the US & UK, he’s been taking breaks to perform at this year’s killer festivals.  The founder of The White Stripes blew minds at SXSW this year and is also scheduled to rock the main stage at Bonnaroo each night as well!   Here at Switchflip, we love all 3-5 of his “bands”, particularly his outstanding work with The Raconteurs.  Obviously this multi-talented songwriter, guitar slinger, producer still finds the need to reinvent himself and bless us w/ even more personal work with the debut solo album Blunderbuss due out April 24th.  Surprisingly, this is his first “solo” album, yet we all know what to expect from the genius that never lets us down.  Peep the first official video released last month entitled “Love Interruption“.  We also dig the live performance of “Sixteen Saltines” he blessed us with on SNL.  #SwitchFlipCertified

White Flight – Dream Lover and Panther

Whatitdo Wurld,

White Flight is an eclectic art-rock project by Justin Roelofs, former songwriter/guitarist for The Anniversary.  Originally from Kansas, Justin’s travels to Peruvian Jungles, Hawaii and New Zealand churned out a solo art project named White Flight.  Although this is not new (nor is it an “active” band), we find these songs from the 2-5 year old project pretty interesting.  Bright and hallucinogenic in sound, the album was not recorded for touring purposes nor “band-collective” fame.  Range Life Records distributed it via Saddle Creek Records as download only, and it basically fell off the face of cyberspace until “Panther” was released in 2010.  Justin is based out of Kauai, Aoteroa & New Zealand these days, so don’t hold your breath to see a live performance of these tunes.  However, If you like electronic hippy music, then this is for you.  SwitchFlip Media’s blog is not just about “new” bands/music to report on, it’s about quality art and a vibe that remains consistent over time.  We will continue to offer you “unearthed gems” as well as what’s “hot off the presses”.  Let us know what you think.

Odd Future: Oldie

Sisters & Bredren,

Odd Future‘s not going anywhere.  OFWGKTA (Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All) is everywhere…literally. For example, they just released their new album The OF Tape Vol. 2, a new comedy show (Loiter Squad) on Adult Swim, touring heavily, opening pop up clothing stores nationwide, and of course the various off shoot groups within the gang are selling mad “records” (downloads).  This time last year a lot of folks were talking about these young cats falling off by now.  Reminiscent of the WuTang Clan (powerful as a group, as well as individual members), check out this impressive posse cut “Oldie“. Taken at a photoshoot, just goofing around, you can tell that they still have the comradery of lil young skater dudes causing havoc in the streets of LA.  Love’em or Hate’m, these guys are proving their talent over just hype.  Earl Sweatshirt is back in the fold, establishing his lyrical dominance as one of the most promising young MCs in the game.  Now if they could just grow up n stop hurting themselves and acting like clowns (see all the broken hands in casts?)…oh wait, they are all still under 25…even 21 years old for that matter… #GolfWang!

Tanlines: All Of Me x Brothers

Happy Friday Earthlings,

Here’s the latest single from Tanlines entitled “All Of Me“.  We added “Brothers” as well, so you get to know this new Indie/Experimental Rock Duo.  The Brooklyn Duo’s debut album Mixed Emotions was release this week (March 20, 2012).  They’ve been touring the U.S. and Europe w/ big acts such as Julian Casablancas (The Strokes ) and Delorean.  Peep’em and let us know what you think!
