Dr. Dre x Kendrick Lamar: The Recipe (Live at Coachella, 2012)

Happy Friday Earthlings,

It’s one of those summer weekends to be proud of where you rep your sunshine.  In our specific case, it’s all about The Westside of LA (Venice Beach, Santa Monica, Marina Del Rey, South Bay).  Here’s a “public service announcement” of how we do it on the Left Coast aka the Best Coast.  Who better to give the stamp of approval other than  LA’s finest Dr. Dre and Kendrick Lamar!  Peep “The Recipe” live from Coachella; they finally dropped an official YouTube treat.  Be on the lookout for Kendrick Lamar‘s major label debut Good Kid in a Mad City this fall.  West Coast…put your “Dubs” up 3x!  Women, Weed & Weather…you know that’s right!

Frank Ocean: Bad Religion (Live)

Whatitdo Wurld,

So, we are sure you’ve heard by now the news about Frank Ocean coming out about his first love being a male, right?  Well if not, click here.  The #NoMoreSecrets hash tag he started was the worldwide top viral trend of the past week.  The Odd Future (OFWGKTA) member and solo artist began his musical career as a ghostwriter for many elite R&B/Pop singers  such as Justin Bieber, Brandy and John Legend. His Nostalgic Ultra mixtape is critically held as one of the best releases of 2011.  He’s most widely known for writing hooks and collaborating w/ Jay-Z and Kanye West on the Watch The Throne album. With his July 12th debut album release and sold out summer tour, the world will finally get a taste of the latest R&B crooner to reinvent the genre.

Check out his live performance of the song “Bad Religion” below.  His debut television appearance on Jimmy Fallon will definitely prove the magic of this special young artist.  The song details an encounter with a religious Muslim taxi driver.  Their conversation contrasts the difference between the men’s faith, as Frankie croons about his same sex love affair.  Although his first official major label release will not be available on Target’s shelves (initial rumors implied due to his sexual orientation) since it dropped exclusively on iTunes first, Billboard charts still expect Channel Orange to rank at least #2 for the week.  Be sure to pick up a copy of this game changing debut album!

Lupe Fiasco: Around My Way (Freedom Ain’t Free)

Sisters & Bredren,

Here’s Lupe Fiasco‘s  “Around My Way”  from the long awaited Food & Liquor pt. 2 slated to drop September 25th.   Directed by Alex Nazari, the video takes you through Lupe‘s daily stroll thru the hometown streets of Chicago.  Animated characters and hard knock life onlookers are the backdrop of his journey as he spits heavily detailed political lyrics.  Old school hip hop heads will recognize this song from the early 90’s smash hit “Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.)” by Pete Rock and CL Smooth.  There’s been a big controversy regarding the songs usage w/o full disclosure from producer Pete Rock.  You can see the original song video here.  Let us know what version you like better.
