Peep M83‘s  “Midnight City” from their  off of their 2011 album”Hurry Up We Are Dreaming“.  Although they’ve been around most of the decade of 2000, they definitely crushed it worldwide in 2011.  French Bandleader Anthony Gonzales named the band after the space spiral galaxy Messier 83.  SwitchFlip has been a fan since they remixed Bloc Party’s “The Pioneers” from their 2005 album Silent Alarm Remix. “We also really dig their 2008 video “We Own The Sky“.  Very fitting for this gorgeous 80 degree weekend here in Sunny Venice Beach!  Enjoy!

It’s been a while since “Cudder” put out something that we really stand behind here at the SwitchFlip Headquarters.  However, this WZRD project shows CuDi’s growth by collaborating with Dot Da Genius and floating into uncharted rock territory.  This recording of “Brake” sounds a bit live and the immediacy of the track n vocals give it an edgy sound.  We heard they’ve released the track list to their upcoming debut album aptly titled after their band name.  Let’s cross our fingers for a “pushed back” February 2012 release.

Shout out to my bro Nobody Famous for rekindling us w/ the music of “Baths” 2010 release “Cerulean“. Will Wisenfeld  (aka Baths) is a local SoCal LA native whom used the moniker “Post-Foetus” back in 2009-2010 with his itunes release “The Fabric” and Low End Theory performances . This young hipster’s style is an experimental chillwave ambient hip hop style ala Flying Lotus-meets -Washed Out. Perhaps even his rarely oft falsetto is reminiscent of D’Angelo sippin’ that purp underwater.  Peep the story in the video..it’s really fresh how the message is separate from the music, yet it still blends well simultaneously. #SwitchFlipCertified for shizzle.

Brooklyn’s “Alt-Hop” group Das Racist has a new video-single “Brand New Dance“.  They’ve been burning up the underground since 2010 with the release of their mixtapes Shut Up, Dude and Sit Down, Man.  In  late 2011, they made a real professional splash by dropping the album Relax. Heems, Kool A.D., and hypeman Dap are well known for their unconventional yet humorous hipster approach to the indie hip-hop genre.  These cats are basically a multi-media art project (releasing mixtapes, videos, 8 bit video games and blog editorials).  They’ve been getting a lot of love from the big dogs (Spin, Rolling Stone, Pitchfork).  Keep your eye out for these crazy characters in 2012.

Das Racist "Relax"

I’m sure you are all aware of the various internet memes playing off of the “shit people say..” and “shit people don’t say”, etc. Well check this out. This shit is funny, no matter what people say. It’s not actually being racist, it’s a parody of the “Shit Girls Say” episode skits.  Those who know SwitchFlip personally will understand that this is all in good humor, as we are the last people on earth to support racisim.  Take a peep, get a laugh, and lend us your thoughts.  Have a great weekend!

The Late Ol’ Dirty Bastard, of Wu-Tang Clan, is well known for being a father to many offspring.  YDB is definitely Russell Jones’ son, as you can see some of the same mannerisms and comedic antics in this flick.  It looks like the “crazy apple” doesn’t fall far from the tree,. The  spirits  of Dirt Dog (aka Dirt McGirt, aka Ason Unique,  aka Osirus, aka Big Baby Jesus)  are definitely referenced and littered subliminally throughout the video.  But what do you think about the actual song?

Here’s a very snazzy Burning Man video shot at 2011′s “Rites of Passage“.  The premise is a story about the high’s n lows of LIFE, loosely based on Dr. Seuss‘s final book before his death. This uber-creative seven minute flick was Directed, Produced & Edited by Teddy Saunders (www.tedshots.com) and his amazing crew.  It definitely gave us a “contact high” here at the SwitchFlip Headquarters.  To all of our religious “Burner” friends, enjoy!
