Amethyst Amelia Kelly aka Iggy Azalea‘s back in the “murda bizness” with her new single “Work” off of her upcoming album The New Classic. The Australian bombshell MC is gearing up for her release on T.I.’s label Grand Hustle/Mercury. In this video, she pays homage to grinding from scratch and following her dream to achieve success in America. Born in Sydney, Iggy began her career at age 14 in a “TLC-esque” group, but decided on a solo career and moved to the United States. After stints in Miami, Atlanta and Houston, Ms. Azalea found herself drawn to the entertainment and fashion culture of Los Angeles.
Honing her style here in the City of Angels seems to be the perfect fit for her flamboyance and femme fatale bravado. It will be interesting to see if her new album will set her apart from her Female Rap Rival, Azealia Banks, whom is known for beefing with everyone in the industry. Nicki Minaj better watch her back too ’cause Iggy’s coming out sassy this Spring! Peep “Work” and the “Behind the Scenes” videos below and let us know what you think. One thing for certain is that the newly crowned “Face of Levis Jeans” and Wilhelmina Agency Model is definitely getting plenty of “work” and attention in 2013.
Black Box Entertainment‘s Diligent finally released a compelling video to accompany his hit “Take Me Away“. The Remix, which features SwitchFlip‘s longtime friend and collaborator Nobody Famous, displays some serious thought provoking lyrics by all 4 MCs (including Plex Long). The spiritual content is wrapped in a heavenly hook sung by Credo Clay. The video’s imagery works well with the “working class plight” theme of the song. Atlanta’s representing lovely in this one…check it out and be sure to share this video.
OFWGKTA’s Tyler the Creator officially drops his 3rd Solo project “Wolf” today (April 2, 2013). The Odd Future creative leader departs from the same content of his second album Goblin both lyrically and musically. The production is heavily bathed in Pharrell Williams‘ (Neptunes, N.E.R.D) trippy synth heavy style, yet Tyler mans the boards and instruments solely throughout the tracklist. Overall you can since the maturity (dare I say) in the lyrical content as well, albeit still a tad dark. The album is basically about growing up in the spotlight, his grandmother’s death, and heartbreak. Special guest appearances by Erykah Badu, Pharrell, Laetitia Sadier (Sterolab), Nas and the OF Gang (Frank Ocean, Earl Sweatshirt, Hodgy Beats, Domo Genesis, Mike G) compliment the Tyler’s heavy hand on all the other aspects of the album.
It’s refreshing to see that his comedic genius is still utilized in the videos he directs, yet the actual songs are not riddled with the “horror-core” content that made OF disturbingly famous. Check out Tyler the Creator‘s new album on iTunesby clicking the image below. Catch him on the North American leg of his Wolf Tour w/ Earl Sweatshirt and others this spring April 11th-May18th. From the glimpses we’ve seen from his European jaunt last month, it should be quite a spectacle. LA peeps, Tyler and the OF gang will be at their pop-up store on Fairfax on album release day (today April 2nd). #GolfWang
I need rehabilitation from my Pusher Love Girl. Time to throw on the Suit & Tieand hit the dance floor, cause I Don’t Hold The Wall up. I see her smackin’ on Strawberry Bubblegumand I catch Tunnel Vision with images of ridin’ in a Spaceship Coupe with That Girl. As we Let the Groove Get In, our kindred spirits share same reflection through each other’s eyes like Mirrors. However, uncertainty via theory of relativity raises question to either ride the wave, or dive directly into the Blue Ocean Floor.
By now most of you have heard the new JT records (i.e. Suit and Tie) or at least seen him on countless television shows and award ceremonies, so our head honcho Damon Howard thought of doing something clever by writing a “lovenote“ type piece that contains all of the titles on the album (above). The album is a proper Soul/R&B throwback compared to the club banging former, which is a healthy direction for the more mature sounding Justin. Questlove of The Roots and Okay Player wrote a very interesting review of the album on Okayplayer.com (click to peep), which also implies that the second LP will come out by November (2 10-song albums equal the 20/20 experience). Justin has confirmed the second album, so you know it’s going down for sure.
Here’s an excerpt of whatQuestlove says that totally sums up how we feel here at the SwitchFlip Headquarters about the albums mature & soulful approach sonically:
“I admire the balls it took to make this record. cause he coulda easily urshurd his work in and made diplo his teddy riley to 20/20′s dangerous instead of sticking with timb’s Quincy. I love the songs but was worried on how he will cut the prime rib to feed to toothless babies” -Questlove
