Justin Timberlake: The 20/20 Experience

Sisters & Bredren,

I need rehabilitation from my Pusher Love Girl.  Time to throw on the Suit & Tie and hit the dance floor, cause I Don’t Hold The Wall up.  I see her smackin’ on Strawberry Bubblegum and I catch Tunnel Vision with images of ridin’ in a Spaceship Coupe with That Girl.  As we Let the Groove Get In, our kindred spirits share same reflection through each other’s eyes like Mirrors.  However, uncertainty via theory of relativity raises question to either ride the wave, or dive directly into the Blue Ocean Floor.

-D.Howard (SwitchFlip Media)

By now most of you have heard the new JT records (i.e. Suit and Tie) or at least seen him on countless television shows and award ceremonies, so our head honcho Damon Howard thought of doing something clever by writing a lovenote type piece that contains all of the titles on the album (above).  The album is a proper Soul/R&B throwback compared to the club banging former, which is a healthy direction for the more mature sounding Justin.  Questlove of The Roots and Okay Player wrote a very interesting review of the album on (click to peep), which also implies that the second LP will come out by November (2 10-song albums equal the 20/20 experience).  Justin has confirmed the second album, so you know it’s going down for sure.

Here’s an excerpt of what Questlove says that totally sums up how we feel here at the SwitchFlip Headquarters about the albums mature & soulful approach sonically:

“I admire the balls it took to make this record. cause he coulda easily urshurd his work in and made diplo his teddy riley to 20/20’s dangerous instead of sticking with timb’s Quincy.  I love the songs but was worried on how he will cut the prime rib to feed to toothless babies”  -Questlove

Pick up The 20/20 Experience on iTunes now.  A 12-city tour appropriately titled “Legends of the Summer” with Jay-Z will begin July 17th, so stay tuned!

Flying Lotus: Until The Quiet Comes

Whatitdo Wurld,

Flying Lotus dropped another gem last week entitled Until The Quiet Comes.  The first release from the new album is “Getting Thereft. Niki Randa.  In this introspective short film, director Khalil Joseph displays visual cinematography just as stunning as the soundtrack melted around it.  The story behind the four-minute mini movie can be interpreted from various angles, but the message remains fairly clear in summary.  To stream the full album click the image below the film.  Be sure to check Flying Lotus out this month on his North American tour.  He’s gonna be home again (here in LA) blowing minds on Oct 26th at Club Nokia.  Send us some feedback on your interpretation of the short film’s message.

The XX: Coexist (album stream)

Happy Friday Earthlings,

The wait is just about over for The XX album, Coexist, which hits shelves next week.  Their sophomore release continues their blazoned path in style and formula. SwitchFlip‘s standout tracklist is as follows: Angels (current single), Reunion (crushing 2nd half of song), Unfold, Sunset, Tides (perfect harmony intro) and Swept Away (potential remix club-banger).  However, the full album plays well straight through and has potential to be a top indie album of 2012.  For all the real “XX” heads, you can preorder the album here.  You can stream the album by clicking the image of the globe below, which takes you to an interactive streaming tool that displays how viral the shared stream is geographically. #SwitchFlipCertified.  Let us know what you think about Coexist!

Joey Bada$$ – Waves (Official Video)

Happy Friday Earthlings,

Here’s the new kid on the Hip Hop Block, Joey Bada$$.  We’ve been waiting for an official video release since our eye has been on the kid for a quick couple months.  The 17-year old Brooklynite has been causing some raukus over the past several months with his infectious flow and lyrical content beyond his years.  Reminiscent of the Golden Era of Rap (mid 90’s), his flavor is mature yet new school enough to catch onto the masses.  Joey Bada$$ has caught the eye of several hip hop heavyweights thus far (MF Doom, Mac Miller), and his momentum continues to accelerate.  Peep his latest video, look out for the release of 1999 Rejex, and even download his first mixtape “1999” from the artwork image below.
