St. Lucia: We Got It Wrong

Wussdascience Wurld,

Jean-Philip Grobler (aka St. Lucia) has officially signed to Neon Gold Records!  The South African Native definitely has his own distinct take on dance music.  After “coming of age” in the UK and NYC, the Brooklynite is about to drop his debut EP later this month.  The vocalist-producer-instrumentalist has been treacherously remixing for the likes of Club Feet, Charlie XCX and even Foster The People.  Riding a high from St. Lucia’s residency at Pianos last month, we are keeping an eye out on new releases as he builds his blend of upbeat African rhythms and futuristic electro-synth wall of sound.  Click the first image below for his official “We Got It Wrong” video release.  We’ve also included a remix version below (it’s cool to see a remix producer get his own songs remixed).  #SwitchFlip Certified fo shizzle, my nizzles.

Yelawolf: Let’s Roll ft. Kid Rock

Happy Mardi Gras!

Here’s the latest video by Eminem’s Shady Records artist Yelawolf.  The Alabama native’s major label debut album “Radioactive” has been receiving mixed reviews, notably for some of it’s forced “crossover” appeal.  Although these latest singles are more mainstream than the earlier wild style independent efforts, we are seeing this talented MC grow artistically right before our eyes.  If you don’t think this cat has his own delightfully unique rap delivery, then you definitely don’t know what it means to be a real MC.   Kid Rock provides the hook, which is very fitting, since he’s a bonafide Detroit Hip Hop Hick!  I mean, the jacked up cadillac limo alone makes this a sick video.  Yela reps his country roots hard in this one, like a true ‘Bama!  Check it out….Let’s Roll!

M.I.A. : Bad Girls

Happy Friday Earthlings,

Here’s the new long-awaited single from M.I.A Riding the controversial coattails of her  Super Bowl XLVI halftime performance featuring Madonna, M.I.A. finds herself with another catchy chart topper.  The video rolls action packed with clever stunts and neo-middle eastern swagger.  Oh by the way, if you haven’t heard, Madonna isn’t too happy about the M.I.A. incident now known as “Fingergate“.  The Material Girl accepted her apology, but officially stated that M.I.A’s actions went against the positive unified energy of the performance.  The NFL will pass the network fine along to M.I.A.  We smell a publicity stunt, as her single just dropped the week of the Big Game…whatcha think?

WZRD: Brake

It’s been a while since “Cudder” put out something that we really stand behind here at the SwitchFlip Headquarters.  However, this WZRD project shows CuDi’s growth by collaborating with Dot Da Genius and floating into uncharted rock territory.  This recording of “Brake” sounds a bit live and the immediacy of the track n vocals give it an edgy sound.  We heard they’ve released the track list to their upcoming debut album aptly titled after their band name.  Let’s cross our fingers for a “pushed back” February 2012 release.
